Look for Ford to launch its revamped F-150 Raptor this summer, the company today, offered in SuperCrew configuration on a 145-inch wheelbase.
Going one step further the F-150’s FX-4 model, the Raptor gets an all-new five-link rear suspension with extra-long trailing arms to better maintain axle position on rough terrain, a Panhard rod, 24-inch coil springs, improved wheel travel, electronically controlled Fox shocks, and optional 37-inch tires; 35-inchers are standard.
Power comes courtesy of a third-generation twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, although Ford didn’t release horsepower or EPA figures, saying only that its 36-gallon tank has a range of more than 500 miles. Maximum payload is now 1,400 pounds while maximum conventional towing is 8,200 pounds. Uniquely the Raptor’s exhaust note can be set to Quiet, Normal, Sport or Baja sound modes.
All of this is helped by a Terrain Management System with Slippery, Tow/Haul, Sport, Normal, Off-Road, Baja and Rock Crawl drive modes, and Trail Control, which is basically cruise control for off-roading. Ford also adds Trail 1-Pedal Drive for situations where the driver must modulate the throttle and brake simultaneously by using only the throttle.
Also offered is Pro Power Onboard, which transforms the truck into a mobile generator with 2.0 kilowatts of power output to run power tools, camp lights, or other items.
And its tech is world-class, with a customizable 12-inch digital gauge cluster and a customizable 12-inch center screen with over-the-air updates. An available 360-degree camera package provides an in-cabin view of obstacles around the truck.
And if that isn’t tempting enough, consider this: a F-150 Raptor R model will be coming next year.
